Frequently Asked Questions

Why Play Therapy?

For children, play therapy is a way to express how they experience the world and learn new ways of responding to perceived challenges they face in every day situations. Through the use of toys in the play room children are able to communicate in a developmentally appropriate way.

What types of concerns can play therapy address?

  • Difficulties at home and school (tantrums, social skills, following directions)

  • Anxiety

  • Trauma

  • Difficulty expressing and regulating emotions

  • Life transitions (divorce, death of a loved one, housing insecurity)

What age range do you serve?

Children ages 2-10

How are sessions set up?

The child and therapist spend the first 45 minutes of each session in the playroom. The last 5 minutes will be used for parent feedback. We will review progress towards goals and suggest strategies parents can implement to support the child’s work at home.

Are parents in the play session?

Typically parents do not participate in the play session unless invited by the child. Children need space to do their own work at their own pace without a parent present. There may be times when your child will want to invite you in to witness part of their process. This will be determined on a case by case basis.

How long will my child need to be in therapy?

A number of factors influence duration of treatment. Typically sessions are weekly in the beginning and may taper down as treatment goals are achieved. While there is no set number of sessions the average range is between 15-30 sessions.

How much does it cost?

$150 per session
